Rescue Efforts Underway After Indonesian Plane Crash

Rescue efforts are underway after an Indonesian plane carrying 189 people crashed into the sea minutes after take off.

It's unclear why the plane crashed or if there are  any survivors .  Indonesia's National Search and Rescue Agency says the  flight disappeared  from radars Monday morning.  The plane reportedly made a request to  head back  to base shortly after takeoff but didn't send out any distress signals.

A rescue team was sent out and found pieces of aircraft in the sea northeast of Jakarta.  The rescue agency said the plane was registered and declared good to fly until August 2019.

Rescue teams are looking for the plane's blackbox to determine the cause of the crash.  Additional reporting from  Newsy affiliate CNN
