Constable jumps from first floor to escape arrest by ACB
tnn | Oct 30, 2018, 04:00 ISTSurat: Anti-corruption bureau (ACB) sleuths nabbed a Lok Rakshak Dal constable in Navsari near a restaurant on National Highway 48 on Monday along his aide while accepting a bribe of Rs 35,000 in cash.
In a bid to escape arrest, 27-year-old constable Rajendra Pandya jumped from the first floor of the building where ACB had raided. He suffered an injury in the leg nad was hospitalized. Pandya, who is posted in Navsari police station, will be arrested after being discharged.
ACB had laid a trap in the building opposite Girnar Restaurant on the highway. Pandya jumped on a metal shed, which broke due his impact and Pandya fell on the ground. Despite leg injury, he tried to get up and run but in vain.
Another accused Vimal Patel, who had come to accept money on Pandya’s behalf, was also arrested. Patel is a farmer and lives in Pera Koliwad village of Navsari. Pandya had told the complainant to hand over the bribe money to Patel.
The complainant’s friend was being harassed by the Pandya in an application submitted to police regarding a dispute over payment for purchase of buffaloes.
Threatening legal action during investigation of the application, Pandya allegedly started pressurizing the farmer and demanded Rs 35,000.
The farmer’s friend approached ACB and registered complaint on toll free number 1064, said P M Parmar, assistant director, ACB
