A woman who was injured in police action on the premises of the Pamba Ganapathy Temple filed a writ petition in the Kerala High Court on Monday seeking compensation from the government. The alleged incident occurred on October 17.
In her petition, Sarojam Surendran, from Mattancherry, sought a sum of ₹2 lakh for the injury and mental agony suffered by her.
The petitioner also pleaded for a directive to the Ombudsman for Travancore and Cochin Devaswom boards to conduct an inquiry into the police action.
According to the petitioner, the police had unleashed terror on her and other devotees who were sitting on the temple premises, chanting bhajans. The police action was nothing but an executive excess and an abuse of power, she said.
