Rajkot: Savarkundla Congress MLA Pratap Dudhat has waded into a controversy after his selfies with the Asiatic lions in the background went viral on social media on Monday.

Taking photographs with lions is an offence under the Wildlife Protection Act. The selfies were taken by the MLA in Krakach village of Amreli’s Liliya taluka where prides of lions are often seen throughout the year. When contacted, Dudhat claimed he took the selfies to expose lax implementation of wildlife protection laws.

He said, “I am fan and protector of lions. I took these pictures when lions came in my farm. I have taken these pictures to show that anybody can take selfies with lions and the law remains only on paper. Government is doing nothing for the protection and conservation of lions. Nobody knew that I took selfies until the pictures went viral on social media.” tnn
