A vocational training centre for the children of police personnel was opened on the Police Recruits School (PRS) campus on Sunday.

A joint initiative of Coimbatore City Police and Former Police Officers’ Charitable Trust, the training centre was opened by M. Ravi, Additional Director General of Police (Headquarters-Chennai).

Books

While Erode-based Sakthi Masala Private Limited has contributed 20,000 books for competitive examinations, P. Kanagaraj, associate professor with Government Arts College, Coimbatore, will coordinate the coaching at the centre.

Students will be trained for TNPSC, UPSC and civil services examinations.

The trust donated a blood analyser for the Police Hospital on PRS campus which Coimbatore City Police Commissioner Sumit Sharan handed over to chief medical officer V. Selvi.

Actor and orator Sivakumar launched the website of the trust while Inspector General of Police (West Zone) K. Periaiah inaugurated the library.

P.C. Duraisamy and Santhi Duraisamy, founder and director of Sakthi Masala Private Limited, handed over ₹10,000 to 27 children of police personnel who performed well in class XII examination.

S. Malarvizhi, chairperson of Sri Krishna Institutions, said five free admissions each would be given for the children of police personnel in arts and engineering streams per year.

From the trust, its managing trustee and retired DSP R. Vellingiri, secretary and retired ADSP K. Nagarasan, treasurer and retired SP N. Rathinam, and trustee and retired ADSP K. Gopalasamy were present.
