Now that's what you call a safety scare: Fake blood is seized over allergy fears after manufactures fail to label ingredients
- Thousands of Halloween products have been seized due to allergy concerns
- The products did not list their ingredients, which is required under the law
- Fake blood was the most common product seized, with 1,487 bottles confiscated
Hundreds of bottles of fake blood has been seized due to a safety scare in the lead-up to Halloween.
Consumer Affairs Victoria have confiscated fake blood, make-up kits, fake moustaches and 'fangs' from wholesale and retail premises across Melbourne's southeast suburbs.
The items were seized because they did not list their ingredients as required under the Australian cosmetics labelling standard.

'These product seizures will help ensure that Halloween remains fun for all Victorians,' Consumer Affairs Victoria director Simon Cohen said.
'Ingredient labelling helps parents spot any ingredients that their children may be allergic to, or to more easily identify the cause if a reaction occurs,' Mr Cohen said.
Fake blood was the most common product seized, with 1,487 bottles confiscated, followed by 1,155 fake moustaches and 443 make-up kits.
The 'Bottle of Blood' and 'War Game' items are now subject to a product recall.
'Many of us enjoy a good scare on Halloween – but it should be for the right reasons,' Mr Cohen said.
Consumer Affairs Victoria will destroy the seized items.

In 2017/2018, more than 1,100 product safety inspections were undertaken in Victoria, more than 55,000 items were seized.
Under the Australian Consumer Law, a supplier who fails to comply with a mandatory safety standard can face fines of up to $220,000 for individuals and $1.1 million for a business.
Consumers who have purchased any of these items should return them to the place of purchase for a full refund.
