In blatant show of slackness, the Institute of Management Studies (IMS) did not encash demand draft drafts submitted by students to pay fees within the prescribed time limit. After expiry of the DDs, the institute is now asking students to submit new drafts and take away the obsolete ones. As students denied complying with the instructions, the institute withheld with their enrolment numbers.
Admission in courses run by IMS was granted to common entrance test (CET). Students from across the country had taken the exam. Outstation students had got their DDs prepared from their local contacts and submitted the same for payment of fee. Sources said that the institute had misplaced DDs worth Rs 10 lakh submitted by around 20 students.
The slack attitude of the institute staff came to the fore when they went to the bank to encash the “obsolete” DDs. The bank officials returned the documents saying that that they were outdated. The institute then asked the students to take back the DDs and get new ones for payment of their fees.
The problem with most of the students is that now they have to search for their local contacts who had prepared DDs on their behalf and get the DDs renewed from banks. The students have no other option and the institute has threatened to cancel their admissions if new DDs were not submitted soon.“Validly of some DDs has expired. We have asked the students to take away the exhausted DDs and bring new ones.” Prof Sangeeta Jain, director, IMS
