Two prisoners on a day out ended up enjoying their short-lived freedom a little too much.

The men had been granted permission to spend a day outside the Outer Metropolitan Multi-Purpose Correctional Centre in Windsor, New South Wales as part of a work release program.

The two inmates took advantage of their work release by having sex with a woman in a motel room.

They were eventually found in the motel after their electric ankle bracelets gave away their location.

Corrections NSW officers were able to track down their whereabouts and bring them back to the prison.

One of the men led the way whilst the other tagged along, the Daily Telegraph reported.

Both inmates have subsequently been taken off work release, a program which allows prisoners who are deemed trustworthy to leave confinement for a certain period of time.

Both inmates face having their minimum security classification revoked.
