'Proud to be chocolate': Kelly Rowland slams accusations that she bleaches her skin after fans criticized new photoshoot
Despite rumors floating around that Kelly Rowland bleaches her skin, the singer shot down the rumors in a now-deleted Instagram story video.
The mild controversy started on Wednesday when the Destiny's Child singer posted a few shots from a recent photo shoot on Instagram, where she appeared to be more light-skinned than usual.
Upon landing in Los Angeles, she took to her Instagram story to post a brief video where she denied bleaching her skin, which was since deleted but re-posted by a fan.

Just the lighting: Some recent shots she posted from a new photoshoot attracted criticism from fans who thought her skin looked lighter
The singer seemed rather amused by the rumors, opening her video by saying, 'So I just landed in LA and I saw that a lot of people are like, 'Oh my god, she bleaches her skin!' followed by a brief laugh.
'Now, I never answer questions like this, because I think it's so stupid or even say anything about comments about this,' Kelly added, before definitively stating, ''I am not the one to bleach my skin, nor do I want to bleach my skin, nor do I have to bleach my skin.

'I don't even think that, it's not for me,' she added. 'So, don't go saying stupid stuff like that.
During her video, she was also dealing with an errant ray of light that shined over her face, as she added, 'You ever thought that it could be the lighting?'
'You think this light, this streak of bleaching is crazy right here?' she said, pointing to the ray of light across her face.
'Dude, I am still chocolate. Forever chocolate. Proud to be chocolate,' Rowland said as the video came to a close.

Rowland also used a number of unique emojis, including one at the beginning of the video that said simply 'Fact,' another with a black version of Rosie the Riveter and another with a finger wagging.
The photo shoot in question that started this whole controversy was with Rowland modeling new Smoke & Mirrors eyewear, which is available exclusively at Barney's New York.
Rowland is seen wearing the stylish shades along with brown pants, a matching brown trench coat over a white sports bra.

After the group split up in 2002, Rowland launched a solo career with Simply Deep later that year, while also turning to acting.
She starred in the 2003 thriller Freddy Vs. Jason in her feature film debut, and she will next play Gladys Knight in the TV series American Soul.
