Wonderful Winx wins record fourth Cox Plate
Winx has won a record-breaking fourth Cox Plate.
It was a close-run race, until the champion mare broke away at the close to win the race for a fourth consecutive time, solidifying her place as one of the all-time greats of Australian racing.
Foreign raider Benbatl finished second, ahead of third-placed Humidor in Australia's most prestigious weight-for-age race.
In typical fashion, Winx hung back until the final 800m before she powered home from the outside.
All eyes were on the legend as punters stopped to see if she could make 2018 her recording-breaking run and surpass the three-year streak shared with Kingston Town.
Last year's win saw Winx surpass Makybe Diva in the Australian prize money stakes, and also equalled Black Caviar's Group 1 wins at 15.
Prior to the race, Daryl Braithwaite wowed punters at the Moonee Valley racecourse with the entire venue chiming in with his special rendition of 'Horses'.
More to come.
