A Maoist attack in Chhattisgarh has claimed lives of 5 CRPF jawans while 2 more were injured.
The incident took place in Awapalli in Chattisgarh
B company of CRPF's 168 battalion was ambushed by Maoists who triggered an IED blast which overturned and destroyed the vehicle carrying the jawans.

The incident comes in the run up to the assembly elections in Chhattisgarh voting for which is to be held on November 12
Speaking to India today, a higher officer said that the troops were out for area domination patrol (from Murdanda towards Timapur) when Maoists attacked them around 4 pm.

Injured jawans have been taken to Basaguda Field Hospital. It has been reported that 4 jawans were killed as soon as the IED blast was triggered while fifth breathed his last while he was being rushed to Basagauda hospital.
The incident comes in the run up to the assembly elections in Chhattisgarh voting for which is to be held on November 12. Number of security personnel deployed in Maoist infested areas is at an all time high owing to preparations for elections.
Assembly elections in 18 Maoist affected constituencies will take place on November 12. Polls in second phase will be held on November 18.
