As steel makers sought feedstocks ahead of monsoon season’s end, India ramped up imports of coking coal, Pulverises Coal Injection (PCI) and metallurgical coke in July. While the coking coal imports in July rose by 1.8 pc from the previous month to 3.49 mnt, PCI imports climbed by 11.4 pc from June to 625,452 t in July. Australia supplied almost three quarters of total imports with 2.61 mnt, up by 10.8 pc from June. While imports from Canada fell by 47.5 pc in July to 304,990 t, India imported 276,038 t of the US coking coal in July, up by 0.9 pc from June.
