MYSURU: Chief Minister H D Kumaraswamy displayed his emotional side during his poll campaign in Mandya, saying that he would like to serve people until his last breath.

Asserting that he is not in politics to amass wealth or cheat people, he recounted his visit to Israel where he could have died of serious health issues. Kumaraswamy, who has undergone a cardiac surgery, said he has returned with people’s blessings and is alive to serve them.

“I don’t know for how many days I will be alive. I have come to power with God’s grace and have made all efforts to execute development programmes. But it is unfortunate that a few people with vested interests, unhappy with my government, have launched a propaganda about its stability,” he said.

Kumaraswamy added that he would not engage in politics that would abandon the poor. “I am an emotional man. I give patient hearing to people to do my best,” he said, adding that serving people is on top of his agenda, and not health.  He appealed to farmers to set aside their apprehension on loan waiver, saying that the loans would be waived in phases, and that the government will write off loans of 10 lakh farmers in Mandya district in November.

He pointed out that the government has waived loans worth `500 crore in Mandya district and another `60 crore will be waived soon. Kumaraswamy also attacked the BJP leaders, saying that those who termed the budget as “Mandya budget” for allocating grants have no moral rights to ask for votes for their party.
Kumaraswamy blamed a section of the media and a few individuals for their continued attack on the government.

He also hit out at Prime Minister Narendra Modi for sending CBI officer Alok Verma on leave for allegedly gathering inputs about the Rafale deal, and said people should ensure that JD(S) candidate L R Shiva Rame Gowda gets more than eight lakh votes. Kumaraswamy addressed party workers in Maddur, Mandya and Srirangapatna.
