Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Edappadi K. Palaniswami on Saturday presented 70 students a total sum of ₹7 lakh for reciting all 1,330 couplets in Thirukural under the ‘Thirukural Recitation Appreciation Prize’ scheme initiated by the Tamil Nadu Government.
The prize has been awarded by the Tamil Development and Information Department. Each student has been given a sum of ₹ 10,000. While 36 students have been receiving this prize since 2011-2012, the number was increased to 50 in 2015-2016. It has since been increased to 70 students in 2017-18. So far, 329 students have received this prize.
New hospitals inaugurated
The Chief Minister inaugurated an outpatient section block built at a cost of ₹3.70 crore in Kallakurichi Government Hospital via video conference.
He also inaugurated the newly built government hospital buildings constructed at a cost of ₹14.35 crore in Ramanathapuram government hospital, Veppur government hospital in Cuddalore district, Thiruporur government hospital in Kancheepuram district, Kulithurai government hospital in Kanniyakumari district, Karambakudi government hospital in Pudhukottai district, Uluppakudi, Maravamangalam and Radhapuram and other places.
