PUNE: Four armed men barged into the online shopping company Amazon’s godown on Lohegaon-Wagholi Road around 4am on Friday and made away with Rs3.38 lakh.
The police suspect the involvement of an insider as the suspects had detailed information about the office.

The senior inspector of the Airport police, Dilip Shinde, told TOI that the godown operates 24 hours during the festival season.

Around 4am, four men with their faces covered, arrived at the godown in a car. “Three employees, including a security guard, were present,” Shinde said.

Brandishing sharp weapons, the four men barged into the godown and beat the security guard.

“The suspects then told one of the employees to give them the locker’s key and when he refused, the suspects beat him up too,” Shinde said.

The men then opened the cupboard in the godown and found the locker’s key. “While they were collecting cash from the locker, one of the employees fled,” the officer said.

The suspects took Rs3.38 lakh from the locker. They then smashed one laptop and took the cellphones of the employee and guard. They also removed the CCTV camera’s recorder before fleeing in the car.

Meanwhile, the employee who managed to escape alerted the manager who then alerted the police control room. “Our team which was on night patrol reached the godown within five minutes,” Shinde said.

The police found the car abandoned at a distance. “Later, a morning walker found a cellphone and handed it over to the police. It belonged to the security guard,” he said.
