The 15 Assembly constituencies of the Hyderabad district will have 40 auxiliary polling stations, to accommodate the huge number of voters who have enrolled afresh.
More than 99,000 voters have been enrolled in the district, necessitating rationalisation of polling stations, the District Election Officer and Commissioner, GHMC, M. Dana Kishore said, during a meeting with the representatives of various political parties, conducted along with the Joint Collector of Hyderabad district, who is the nodal officer of Model Code of Conduct, on Friday.
The DEO briefed about additional polling stations, change of locations of the polling stations and also publicity material, rates of the advertisements and other election process, monitoring of election expenditure, rates pertaining to hire vehicles and others.
With the rationalisation, the total number of polling stations has grown from the existing 3,826 to 3,866. A total of 55 polling stations have been proposed for change of location, owing to reasons such as the status and ownership of buildings.
New locations will be chosen as per the guidelines of the Election Commission, without causing inconvenience to the voters of the locality concerned, Mr. Dana Kishore said. Change of name has been proposed for 268 more polling stations.
Through a press communiqué, the GHMC has informed that a total of 27,443 banners, posters and wall writings have been removed in the city since the day the model code has kicked in.
The Enforcement, Vigilance and Disaster Management wing has removed 9,900 posters, 9,600 banners, 583 wall writings, and 7,392 instances of other publicity material so far from the government buildings and campuses.
From the private buildings, more than 18,000 wall writings, banners and posters have been removed.
