The Great War, or the First World War, formally stopped on November 11, at the eleventh hour of the day, in 1918. Many events are being planned across Europe and America to mark the centenary of the end of the war. As the village mayor of Ors told The Guardian: “It is important that everyone learn from the mistakes of the past... The young people have to know that these soldiers died for us to be free.” There were nearly 17 million military and civilian deaths in the war. More than 1.3 million indians fought in the war, of whom over 70,000 never returned home.
