Coimbatore: The city police on Saturday sent a special team to Madurai to nab the duo, who had snatched gold chains worth 35.5 sovereigns from six women in the district on Wednesday.

The motorcycle-borne miscreants had first relieved two women at Kadampadi and Chinathamanipudur under Sulur police limits of a seven-sovereign gold chain and a 11-sovereign chain. They then snatched a two-sovereign chain from V Divya of MGR Nagar at Sundarapuram and three-sovereign chain from T Sulochana of Arul Murugan Nagar at Podanur. Later, the duo snatched a 2.5-sovereign chain from K Sumathi of Kothari Nagar at Singanallur and a 10-sovereign chain from P Ponnuthai of VOC Nagar near Ganapathy.

“We had collected CCTV footage that showed the two suspects from Podanur and surrounding areas. But the video was not very clear and we could not identify them or the registration number of their motorcycle. But we suspect that they hail from Madurai or the southern part of the state. So, we have sent a team to Madurai to collect more information,” a senior police officer said.
