Terrorists killed two Indian army soldiers in two separate attacks in the last 16 hours, even as security forces gunned down two more terrorists taking their death toll to 10 in the past 48 hours across the Valley.

Lance Naik Brajesh Kumar of 22nd battalion of Rashtriya Riffles (RR) sustained grievous injuries during a fierce encounter with the terrorists at Malgunipura in Sopore on Friday. He was immediately shifted to a hospital where he succumbed.

“Hailing from Nanawin village in Una district of Himachal Pradesh, 32-year-old Lance Naik Brajesh Kumar is survived by his wife and a daughter,” said Colonel Rajesh Kalia, defence spokesman at Srinagar.

Two terrorists were also killed in the operation which was launched after security forces received inputs about their presence in the area.

“As the search operation was going on, the hiding terrorists fired at the search party, which was retaliated. Two terrorists were neutralised,” said a police spokesman.

Police said incriminating materials, including arms and ammunition, were recovered from the site of encounter. Police has registered a case and an investigation has been initiated in the matter.

In a separate incident, Sepoy Ngamsiamliana attained martyrdom during a standoff attack on the camp of 42nd battalion of Rashtriya Riffles in Luragam village of Tral in South Kashmir’s Pulwama district on Thursday night.

“23-year-old Sepoy Ngamsiamliana hailed from Rengtekawn village in Kolasib, Mizoram, and had joined the Army in 2013. He is survived by his parents,” said Colonel Kalia.
