Madrassa teacher seeks extortion, held

GORAKHPUR: Gorakhpur Police on Thursday morning arrested a madrassa teacher, Shamim Ahmad, for allegedly seeking Rs 10 lakh as extortion from the wife of former principal of Baba Raghav Das Medical College. Shamin is a resident of Maharajganj district.


Ranjana Arya, wife of former BRD Medical College principal Dr Sunil Arya, received a call from an unknown mobile phone on October 19. The caller allegedly asked her to pay Rs 10 lakh and also sent a WhatApp message from a number carrying profile picture of don Dawood Ibrahim.


Dr Arya informed SSP Gorakhpur about the call, following which an FIR was lodged, said police “Later, acting on a tip-off, Shamim Ahmad, 19, was nabbed from railway station gate number 2.
