Sitabuldi police have registered a case of fraud against Bright Career Education Consultancy, Ranchi, following a complaint by Surekha Raut, finance head of Tulsiramji Gaikwad Patil College of Engineering.
According to cops, the consultancy had come in contact with the college through social media and sent an e-mail, assuring that it will send students for admission. After several rounds of communication, according to reports, the college was to pay the consultancy Rs15,000 per admission as commission.
The college principal Jeevan Dehankar went to Ranchi to contact students and gave demand draft worth Rs90,000 to the firm as commission amount for giving admission to six students. The consultancy provided mark sheets of students and also produced them before Dehankar. Several cheques worth Rs2.34 lakh were given by the consultancy to him as fee of students for admission.
After Dehankar returned to city, he deposited the cheques with a nationalized bank at Sitabuldi. However, on July 11, the cheques bounced and the bank informed the college administration that those were fake. Documents provided by the consultancy claiming to be of students were also found to be invalid.
Raut then lodged a complaint with Sitabuldi police station. After conducting primary investigations, the cops registered a case of fraud under sections 420, 465, 467 and 471 of Indian Penal Code on Friday.
