CHENNAI: A 63-year-old woman was robbed of seven-sovereign chain by three women who posed as her co-travellers in an autorickshaw on Wednesday evening. Police said Thayammal (63), a resident of Thirumullaivoyal, was waiting at the Ambattur CIT Colony bus stop around 5 pm on Wednesday.

“Three women standing near her asked her where she was bound for.  Thayammal told them that she was going to Saraswathi Vinayagar Nagar. The trio told her that they were passing through that way and convinced her to share an auto ride. All four women boarded the autorickshaw and Thayammal was seated in the middle,” said a police officer.

After Thayammal got down near her house, the three women and auto fled the spot. Later, she realised that she was robbed of her seven-sovereign gold chain and lodged a complaint with the Ambattur police.
