PUNE: The Shivajinagar bus station will be shifted to Mula Road by January 15 to pave way for the underground Metro rail work.
The facility will be used for two years until the multimodal hub at Shivajinagar becomes operational.
Pramod Ahuja, the MahaMetro official in charge of the underground section, said they are in the final stages of the process to acquire land for the new station. “We hope to complete the process in the next 15 days. Once the land is in our possession, the work of setting up the bus stop will be completed in two months,” said Ahuja.
The work will be done on the Shivajinagar multimodal hub alongside the underground work. As per MahaMetro officials, two sites were considered for the new bus stop — Mula road and Sangamwadi.
In another development, officials said work on the much-vaunted double-decker flyover near Nal Stop will start in the first week of November. “An inspection of the Metro routes on Karve Road and Paud Road was carried out in association with the PMC and traffic police department. Issues such as parking of two wheelers on the footpath and problems caused to pedestrians were discussed. These issues will be sorted out in one month,” said Atul Gadgil, who is overseeing the Vanaz-Ramwadi Metro corridor.
He added that MahaMetro has finalized the design of the Metro station at Sambhaji Garden and that work on the entry points to this station will start soon. “It has been a year since Metro work started. We have recently done the assessment of financial as well as civil works on the ground level and found that nearly 25% of the work has been completed,” Gadgil said.
