Two women arrested after car dumped on tram tracks
Two women tried to flee from an alleged stolen car after it was dumped on tram tracks in Melbourne's inner city early on Friday.
The driver of the car, a 26-year-old woman from South Melbourne, and her passenger, a 31-year-old woman from Werribee, were first spotted in Hoppers Crossing, in the city's south-west.
The silver Holden sedan was seen driving erratically on Forsyth Road about 3am on Friday.
Police tracked the car's movements through Carlton, Docklands and Toorak before the car was forced to stop on tram tracks in Kings Way, South Melbourne.
When the vehicle stopped, the pair fled but were arrested soon after.
"They are currently being interviewed in relation to a number of traffic offences and the theft of a motor vehicle," a police spokesman said.
Outbound lanes on Kings Way were closed while the car was towed away but the road has since reopened.
