Politicians, Beware!
Stray dogs menace has also become a poll plank in Indore-4 constituency, which is represented by MLA Malini Gaud, who is also the Mayor of Indore. Residents and shopkeepers of Kuwar Mandli area located near Sarafa have hung a banner in the locality requesting politicians not to approach them for votes.
Denizens and businessmen of this locality are cross with Indore Municipal Corporation (IMC) for resolving the stray dog issue. They claimed that stray dogs have made their lives hell. “The canines chase two-wheeler riders and bite children playing in streets. In last six days, 16 persons –including children – were bitten by dogs,” the residents told media persons.
In Indore, there are about 80,000 stray dogs. Everyday, several cases of dog bite are reported. While IMC has hired an NGO which sterilises around 35 dogs a day, people think that the figure of 35 per day is not enough to check their growing population.
They want dogs to be thrown out of their colonies but the IMC is bound with the Supreme Court order and Dog Rules which state that the stray canines have to be left back in the same habitat after sterilisation.
