Within few hours of the bail applications of activists Sudha Bhardwaj, Arun Ferreira and Vernon Gonsalves were rejected by the special court in the Bhima Koregaon violence case, the teams of Pune police took Ferreira and Gonsalves in their custody on Friday evening.
They were picked up from their respective residences from Mumbai and Thane. While the duo will be brought to Pune, the police officials told DNA that they will be taking Bharadwaj into the custody on Saturday.
These three accused along with activist Varavara Rao and Gautam Navalakha were arrested on August 28 but their arrests were challenged in Supreme Court. The Apex court had sent them in the house arrests.
All these three accused were under house arrest as per the Supreme Court's directions. The court had also asked them to approach the appropriate court for the further legal process for the bail. Aa per the court's order, these three accused had moved bail application before the special court in Pune.
Giving order on their bail application, the district and sessions judge KD Vadane rejected the bail applications of all the three accused on Friday afternoon after which police immediately took the custody of Ferreira and Gonsalves.
Confirming the action, joint commissioner of police Shivaji Bodkhe said, "Our teams have taken Ferreira and Gonsalves into their custody and they will be brought to Pune. They will be produced before the court tomorrow."
Earlier in the day, citing that there is prima facie evidence against the accused arrested for alleged Maoist links, the special court in Pune today rejected bail applications of Sudha Bharadwaj, Arun Ferreira and Vernon Gonsalves.
'The material collected from the accused shows that the alleged act travels beyond gravity of mere disturbance and it may transcend the frontiers,' the court observed in the order.
