How to make a fascinator for just $5: Creative art teacher fashions a Kmart PLACEMAT into a black netted accessory for the spring racing season
- An art teacher has fashioned a fascinator by simply using a placemat from Kmart
- The 55-year-old revealed that the creative project cost her less than $5
- People online are calling it the 'Kmart hack of the year'
Women regularly show off their creative Kmart 'hacks' on social media - but one savvy customer has come up with what some have dubbed 'hack of the year'.
Anne-Maree Wise, a 55-year-old art teacher from Melbourne, recently shared photos of a stylish black fascinator she fashioned using a placemat from Kmart.
Better yet, the project cost her less than $5.
'Derby day hat sorted thanks to Kmart (and a bit of glue and cotton thread!),' she wrote on Facebook.

'I used a black placemat $1.50 and a flower (I added a piece of net I bought at Spotlight). Total cost just under $5.'
Fascinators can often fetch a hefty price, making them unaffordable for some people who want to attend the races.
Thanks to this savvy idea from Ms Wise this doesn't have to be the case.
'Good job. I was helping friend look for a ready-made one online and saw what looked like this placemat on a headband with maybe a bit of glue to gather it. It was $70,' one person responded.

The handy trick has shown off the woman's creative talents and has resulted in a buzz online.
One commenter even went as far as to call it the 'Kmart hack of the year'.
Another woman suggested that the creator sell a variety of hats online so those who are less handy with a needle and thread can purchase one.
'Are you kidding me? That’s worthy of a best hat prize,' said another.
