BHUBANESWAR: With Odisha Men’s Hockey World Cup 2018 inching closer, the Works department has been asked to issue structural safety certificate to the Hockey Complex at Kalinga Stadium at the earliest. Sports Secretary Vishal Kumar Dev, in a letter to his Works counterpart Nalini Pradhan, has requested safety certificate for the facility which will be sent to International Hockey Federation prior to the sports event.

The seating capacity of the Hockey Complex at the renovated Kalinga Stadium has been increased to 15,000 from 8,000 with addition of two more galleries. The Works department has been assigned the task of monitoring installation of DG sets and other equipment during the event. 

“Technicians dealing with street and facade lighting besides AC units need to be stationed well ahead of the opening ceremony of the event. There will also be huge deployment of DG sets for the event for which overall monitoring and coordination may be done by the Works department to ensure that the equipment are made functional during the event without any glitches,” Dev’s letter stated.The hockey World Cup is scheduled to start from November 28. It will be preceded by a grand opening ceremony at the Athletics Ground of Kalinga Stadium.
