Indore: With changing lifestyle and food habits, our body ages faster than we realise and it starts with dental problems. This was explained by periodontist Dr Rashmi Solanki while addressing the gathering of students, teachers and participants who had turned up for the free seminar and camp, ‘Smile Please!’ at Ayappa Public School on Wednesday. “We are moving away from Indian delicacies and healthy food to fast food, which contains refined carbohydrates and is generally high in sugar,”
Rashmi said. She explained that these habits not only affect digestive track and weight but also cause cavities in teeth. “Sugars and bacteria, together, create an acidic condition in mouth that can break down tooth enamel and lead to tooth decay,” Rashmi said. Interacting with children, she asked about the toothpaste used by them for regular cleaning. “An adult has different teeth as compared to growing children, so we need to use different toothpaste that is suitable for them,” Rashmi said.
She said children’s toothpaste have lesser fluoride. “Sadly, more than 85 percent households use the same toothpaste for children and adults,” Rashmi said. When kids are exposed to too much fluoride, their teeth may form little, white spots known as fluorosis. The event was organised by Create Stories Social Welfare Society.
