A 36-year-old man has been arrested for raping his five-year-old niece in north-west Delhi’s Haiderpur on Tuesday, the police said on Wednesday.
The accused has been booked under Section 363 (kidnapping) of the Indian Penal Code and the POCSO Act.
The police said that the accused had held the girl captive inside the washroom and sexually assaulted her.
The girl was taken to a nearby hospital for a medical examination, where doctors confirmed the sexual assault.
Preliminary investigations revealed that the accused had come to visit the victim’s house. On the day of the incident, he lured the child and took her to the washroom, where he forced himself on her.
After the girl started shouting for help, a neighbour, who heard her came and broke open the door of the washroom. The accused was caught and was later thrashed by the locals before being handed over to the police.
The accused was produced in a court and sent to judicial custody.
