Multiple reports suggest that those who have installed the latest update claims that a new bug is impacting Windows 10 zip file operations. Reports on the bug were first reported on Reddit, where many users complained of not receiving warnings during unzip operations. A thread on Feedback Hub has been created to discuss the issue.
“I noticed that whenever I move something out of a zip, the “do you want to replace these files” dialogue never shows up, it just does it. I’ve reinstalled windows and it still does it, it’s only on the October update. Pretty nasty bug since you can accidentally overwrite a file and have no way of getting it back,” explains a Redditor.
To simply put, when you unzip files into a folder, if other copies of those files already exist in that folder, Windows 10 generally asks if the user wants to overwrite the existing document. The problem is, Windows 10 doesn’t tell you what’s it’s doing, and it overwrites those files automatically without informing the user. We do not know when Microsoft will address the zip flaw in the current version of Windows 10 flaw.
