BMW has issued a recall for 268,000 cars in the UK amid fears they could pose a potential fire hazard.
The recall applies to 12 diesel models including Series 1 - 7, as well as X1 and X3 - X6 ranges.
The car manufacturer already issued a recall of certain models earlier this year.
Why is there a recall?
BMW revealed to Which? that in some diesel vehicles, glycol-leakage from the Exhaut-Gas-Recirculation (EGR) cooler can occur.
This leakage can combine with typical soot deposits and the high temperatures that are normally present in the EGR module to create smouldering particles - which could lead to a fire in the engine.

How do I know if my car is affected?
The affected cars were produced between August 2010 and January 2017, and are all diesel.
This means that any 4-cylinder models produced from December 2014 to August 2016 in the following series: 3-, 4-, 5-, 6-Series, X3, X4, X5, X6 are affected by the recall.
Any 6-cylinder models in the same series, produced from July 2012 to June 2015, are also impacted.

The recall also includes 4-cylinder models produced from March 2011 to January 2017 in the following series: 1-,2-,7-Series and X1.
Vehicles produced between August 2010 and June 2015 in the same series as above but 6-cylinder are also part of the recall.
What should I do if my car is on the recall list?
The manufacturer explained: "The BMW Group has decided to carry out a voluntary recall to check the EGR module and replace any faulty components on the potentially affected diesel vehicles."
They said that they will contact affected customers as soon as possible, adding that "there will be no cost to the customer."
Aware of the concern customers may experience, they have advised anyone worried that their car is at risk to contact their local BMW Retail Centre to organise an inspection.
Alternatively, customers can call the BMW Customer Care team.
