Jaitley: Govt acted to save CBI’s integrity
TNN | Oct 25, 2018, 07:29 ISTNEW DELHI: The infighting in the CBI had resulted in a situation where action was necessary to ensure its institutional integrity for a fair and free investigation into charges levelled, finance minister Arun Jaitley said on Wednesday.
“CVC’s recommendation and government’s action intended to restore CBI’s institutional integrity,” he said.
Jaitley countered opposition charges that action against the CBI chief was intended to scuttle a Rafale probe. “The fact that three opposition parties are saying they know what the agency was going to do next casts doubt on the fairness process,” he said.
Hinting that fugitives like businessman Vijay Mallya may exploit questions over the CBI’s integrity, Jaitley said, “We can’t afford that people outside the country against whom there are cases get the opportunity to point fingers at our agencies.”
