Toulouse pair Kaino, Pointud lose appeals

2018-10-25 19:45

Paris - Toulouse pair Jerome Kaino and Lucas Pointud will remain sidelined after appeals to European Cup rugby organisers were rejected on Thursday.

Kaino remains suspended until December 2 after initially being yellow carded for a shoulder charge at the head of Bath player Jamie Roberts.

Pointud was handed a four-week ban after aiming his shoulder at the head of Bath prop Nathan Catt and remains out of action until November 25.

A statement by European Professional Club Rugby said the Kaino incident had "warranted a red card".

It added: "An independent Appeal Committee has refused an appeal by the Toulouse player, Jerome Kaino, against the five-week suspension imposed on him by an independent Disciplinary Committee after he was cited for foul play during his club's Heineken Champions Cup, Round 1 match against Bath Rugby.

"The Committee was not satisfied that the decision taken at the initial Disciplinary Hearing had been in error and decided to dismiss the appeal. Therefore, Kaino's suspension remains in place and he is free to play on Monday, December 3."

Turning to Pointud, the statement said the "the citing complaint" "was upheld as it was determined that Pointud had struck the Bath Rugby prop, Nathan Catt, with his shoulder in the 50th minute of the match in contravention of Law 9.12.

"The Committee was not satisfied that the decision taken at the initial Disciplinary Hearing had been in error and decided to dismiss the appeal. Therefore, Pointud's suspension remains in place and he is free to play on Monday, November 26."
