Most schools in district may miss evaluation deadline
Nivedha Selvam | TNN | Oct 26, 2018, 00:12 ISTCoimbatore: While the deadline for completing the evaluation process under the National Programme on School Standards and Evaluation (NPSSE) — known as Shaala Sidhdhi — falls on October 31, only 251 of the 3,180 government and government-aided schools in the district have completed it, TOI found.
Developed by the National University of Educational Planning and Administration (NUEPA), the programme aims to enable schools evaluate their performance in a focused and strategic manner and facilitate them to make professional judgment for improvement.
As on October 23, only 251 schools in Coimbatore district have completed the evaluation process, while 938 are half-way through the process. According to the sources in the department, as many as 1,993 schools are yet to start the process.
The evaluation is carried out from Class VI to XII in seven key domains – resources of school, teaching-learning assessment, learners’ progress, teachers’ performance, school management, community participation and inclusion and safety aspects. “It is more like an online self-assessment process, as the schoolteachers are conducting the evaluation. They analyze and provide information about all teachers and students in the school, and also about the infrastructural standard,” said an official in-charge of the process.
