Indian Coast Guard's operational readiness reviewed

PANAJI: Indian Coast Guardregional commander for Western region inspector general Vijay Digambar Chafekar was in Goa for a two day visit to review the operational and administrative preparedness of the Coast Guard units in the state.


During his brief visit, the flag officer inspected the maritime readiness at sea on board a Coast Guard ship, where he witnessed various coast guard operations, including towing, boarding operations, firing and air operations.


The Indian Coast Guard (West) region comprises a critical area that extends to the outer limits of the Exclusive Economic Zone from the coasts of Maharashtra, Goa, Karnataka, Kerala, Daman and Diu and Lakshadweep.


Chafekar also inspected the district headquarters at Vasco, which is responsible for operations in Goa. The Inspector General also visited Goa Shipyard Limited where off-shore patrol vessels are being built.


Inspector general inspected the coast guard air store depot and coast guard aeronautical inspection service.
