A man, who was allegedly driving a chartered bus that rammed a school bus on Monday afternoon claiming two lives and causing eight vehicles to pile up, was arrested late on Tuesday night, the police said on Wednesday.

The accused, who had fled the spot in Vivek Vihar, has been identified as Nooruddin (33), a resident of Hamdard Nagar in Uttar Pradesh’s Aligarh.
Nooruddin was arrested from his rented house in Khoda village, situated at the Delhi-Uttar Pradesh border, in a raid on Tuesday, the police said.
During interrogation, Nooruddin told the police that he was heading towards Ramprastha traffic signal in Vivek Vihar, when an autorickshaw suddenly came in front of his bus, said a police officer who is probing the case.
“Nooruddin said he had tried to escape a collision and applied brakes, but could not stop the bus as he was speeding. As soon as the bus rammed the school bus, he fled from the spot fearing public outrage,” the police officer also said.
Nooruddin was traced after the police contacted the owner of the bus and obtained details about Nooruddin from him, the officer said.
Around 3 p.m. on Monday the bus Nooruddin that was driving had rammed into a school bus. The students in the bus did not sustain any injury, but the bus went on to hit a UP roadways bus, which further banged into a DTC bus. Two autorickshaws and two bikes were crushed between the four buses. A car also had got hit in the incident.
In the incident which saw eight vehicles hitting one another, two DTC bus conductors — Satish Kumar and Rupendra Kumar — were killed. The deceased were returning home after their duty, the police said.
