GREATER NOIDA: The Yamuna Industrial Development Authority (YEIDA) has written to the UP government seeking to establish seven police stations near the Jewar international airport. The move is aimed at providing better security for people once the airport starts functioning.

It has proposed two police stations in Sector 18, out of which one will be in YEIDA’s proposed new campus. One police station each will be set up in five sectors—Sector 17, 20, 22-D, 22-E and 24. Sources said the state government has already sanctioned Rs 240 crore for the airport.

Last week, the district administration sent a proposal to the state government for notification of land acquisition after securing the consent of 72% farm owners. The government’s nod for notification is expected in two weeks.

A Yamuna Authority official said the proposal for new police stations is aimed at providing adequate security for people and industrial houses proposed to come up in the area.

Earlier this month, YEIDA had launched a residential plot allotment scheme near Jewar airport. The Authority has planned to allot 1,631 plots in the first phase. These residential plots are earmarked in Sector 18, 19, 20, 22 A, 22 C and 22 D. The officials said they are receiving good response from people on these residential plots near Jewar airport. In July, YEIDA had launched an open ended scheme for industrial land allotment near the project side. YEIDA has also earmarked land for the police stations.

The Jewar international airport aims to share Delhi’s air traffic pressure and freight load. The current annual passenger throughput at Indira Gandhi International (IGI) airport in Delhi is approximately 60 million. The currently annual passenger capacity at IGI is around 62 million, and by 2020, it would rise to approximately 80-85 million.
