Seven suspected Maoists appear in Dindigul court

Amidst tight security, five suspected Maoists, including two women, were produced before the Judicial Magistrate Court here on Thursday. Two others, who are on bail, also appeared in the court in connection with the Kodaikanal arms training case.

When a special investigation team of police conducted combing operations on Kodaikanal hills in 2008, they spotted a group of men and women being trained in use of arms. While the police nabbed some of them, several others escaped from the scene. One person, identified as Naveen Prasad, died in the encounter. The police registered cases against the suspected Maoists under 16 different sections.

The police later arrested a few of them in different locations. They were in judicial custody since then.

On Thursday, the police had brought to the Dindigul court Kannan, Kalidas, Bhagat Singh, Reema Jasmine Mary and Shenbagavalli. Two others, Ranjith and Neelamegam, are on bail. They also appeared before the court.

After the hearing the case, the court posted it to November 12. Meanwhile, a petition to transfer the case to the Sessions Court was submitted in the court.
