Annual headline producer price inflation for September has come in at 6.2% compared to 6.3% in August, according to data published by Statistics South Africa on Thursday.
The producer price index is a weighted index of prices measured at the wholesale or producer level.
"This outcome was in line with consensus expectations," said Lara Hodes of Investec in a statement, noting the marginal drop was primarily underpinned by a reduction in fuel price pressures for September. This was caused by Energy Minister Jeff Radebe's decision to temporarily cap fuel price increases.
