Top theatre artistes, including Pankaj Kapur, Surekha Sikri, Supriya Pathak Kapur, K.K. Raina, Ila Arun, Cyrus Broacha, Kunal Vijaykar and Mahesh Dattani, are among the 150 names who will be part of this year’s Qadir Ali Baig Theatre Festival beginning from Friday.

The theatre extravaganza, in its 13th edition, has a range of plays from classical and physical theatre, Kalaripayattu to stand-up comedy, to Telangana folk and a French biography.

A key component of the festival, ‘Master Classes’ will feature actor-writer Jeff Goldberg from New York, thespian Jalabala Vaidya from Delhi, theatre activist Arvind Gaur and Kalaripayattu practitioners Kalarigram from Kerala.

This year, the festival will also introduce ‘Fringe’ section with Telangana folk performances such as ‘Oggu Dolu’ and ‘Chindu Yakshagana’ to highlight the performance art forms of Telangana. The festival is curated by Mohammad Ali Baig as a tribute to theatre legend Qadir Ali Baig.

Plays are to be staged at Ravindra Bharati, Taramati Baradari, Alliance Francaise and other venues.
