It is going to be a happy and prosperous Diwali for 600 people in the employ of a diamond merchant in Surat, as each of them is set to receive a car as their annual festive bonus.

The generosity comes from diamond trader Savji Dholakia, who believes that big rewards would push his employees to perform better.

An official of his company, Hari Krishna Exports, said that 600 diamond workers would be rewarded with either Renault Quid or Maruti Suzuki Celerio on Thursday, as part of the company's annual bonus programme for meritorious employees.

The company has a total of 6,000 employees, all of whom would get dinner sets as well.

"Prime Minister Narendra Modi is slated to address the firm's employees through video conference," the official said.

The large-hearted act comes less than a month after Dholakia gifted Mercedes sports utility vehicles, worth Rs 1 crore each, to three of his employees who had completed 25 years in the company.

"Buying the first car is a big moment in anyone's life. Getting it as incentive inspires my employees to perform better. Their lifestyle improves, their families are happy. This benefits the company too," Dholakia said.

In an earlier interview, he had told DNA: "I don't see them as employees. They are shareholders and partners in my growth. Whatever profit Hari Krishna Exports makes, we distribute it among them, depending on their contribution to the firm's growth."
