After failing to cross the finish line in its last five encounters, Tamil Thalaivas finally secured a victory by getting the better of Zone A topper Puneri Paltan in the Inter-Zone Challenge Week of Pro Kabaddi Season 6.

It was a memorable day for Thalaivas skipper Ajay Thakur as he became only the third player to cross 600 raid points in Pro Kabaddi history. Ajay was ecstatic with the win. “We have a good team that has the potential to do well. We just had a change of strategy, wherein we attacked its (Puneri’s) lead raider more. It paid off and we feel happy to come out with a win,” said Ajay.
“We have been unlucky in our past few games and I’m very happy we got over the line. I hope this kick starts our season,” added Ajay. Thalaivas coach Edachery Bhaskaran remarked the win will boost his side going forward.
“We defeated a top team from the other zone. This will give us a lot of confidence. We played very well and that enabled us to win,” said Bhaskaran.
Ajay suffered an injury in the previous game against Bengaluru Bulls in Sonipat, in which Thalaivas finished second best. But, the talismanic raider recovered quickly, earning a spot in the Starting Seven against Puneri. On how important was Ajay’s return to the team, Bhaskaran added, “Ajay got a ‘Super 10’ and got to 600 raid points. It’s never easy to get 600 raid points. He is a special player who can do special things. I hope that with his return to form, we can continue winning games and qualify for the ‘Super Play-offs’.”
