NAVI MUMBAI: The Central Railway team on Thursday conducted the maiden trial run of the 12-km Nerul-Kharkopar-Belapur section of the new Uran corridor on the harbour line. The safety run by the commisoner of railway safety is scheduled on October 30 (Tuesday). The safety certificate will ensure commissioning of the regular service for commuters that will ensure connectivity of the new Ulwe node, opposite upcoming international airport, to CST and Panvel.
The over four-and-a-half-hour run was successful that tested tracks, speed variations, electrical and signalling system. If everything goes well during the safety test, the commissioning could be a Diwali gift. This is the first phase of the 27-km-long Uran corridor.
The team of chief engineer, deputy chief engineer and chief electrical engineer (all construction section) boarded a regular 12-coach empty rake at 1:50pm afternoon and the trial test ended at 6:30pm.
CR sources said the test started with a slow run and later the fast run. With around 22 curves where the speed is slow pace, the limits of a regular run when the service is commissioned will vary from 50-80 kmph.
