The ABC has finally apologised to the Camp Gallipoli Foundation, six months after it was slammed on the broadcaster's recently axed Tonightly with Tom Ballard program.
Presenter Tom Ballard blasted the former charity and its chief executive Chris Fox on his comedy program on April 23 over claims it failed to distribute money to RSLs and other veteran organisations.
The comedy show aired for the final time on September 7 in the wake of several on and off-air controversies.

The ABC has finally apologised to the Camp Gallipoli Foundation, six months after Tom Ballard (pictured) slammed the former charity and its chief executive on his comedy program in April
The Camp Gallipoli Foundation was stripped of its charity status in 2016 after a Fairfax investigation revealed the organisation was unable to provide evidence it distributed money to RSL branches and Legacy clubs, despite collecting millions in donations, sponsorships and ticket sales.
The foundation hit back against the claims it did not share all surplus money raised, saying it 'strongly refutes any claims that a misappropriation of funds has taken place'.
Mr Fox said at the time that the organisation was heartbroken by the allegations, because they have only ever 'tried to do the right thing'.
The ABC acknowledged this week that the Camp Gallipoli Foundation delivered on its other objectives and unreservedly apologised to Mr Fox 'for the embarrassment and distress caused to him by reason of the broadcast.'
'The ABC wishes to clarify that, although the objects of the Camp Gallipoli Foundation included "to use the surplus from the Camp Gallipoli commemorative events to support RSL branches and Legacy Clubs", most of its other objects did not concern fundraising,' the statement says.
'The ABC accepts that it did not have a proper basis to suggest that Mr Fox acted improperly in his role as CEO of the Camp Gallipoli Foundation and regrets and unreservedly withdraws the statement made by Mr Ballard that the Camp Gallipoli concept was a poorly conceived plan that ballooned into a costly and devastating failure thanks to the greed and hubris of those in command.'

The national broadcaster has since come under fire on social media.
'ABC destroys another reputation! Apology on some website nobody knows about,' one person tweeted.
The ABC announced in late August that it would not renew Tonightly with Tom Ballard in the wake several controversies and allegations.
The television watchdog cleared the ABC of any wrongdoing after the show ran a satirical skit that called a conservative politician a c**t on-air.
In the controversial sketch, which centred around the by-election in the Melbourne electorate of Batman, comedian Greg Larson labelled an Australian Conseratives candidate a 'c**t' for refusing an interview.

As a result of the skit, Communications Minister Mitch Field complained to the Australian Communications and Media Authority after the broadcaster refused to apologise for the comment.
But despite agreeing that the language was offensive, the ACMA found the show did not breach the ABC Code of Practice.
Ballard himself was also accused of sexual misconduct in recent months, an accusation he has completely denied. It is not suggested the decision to not renew the program is related to the sexual assault allegation.
At the time of announcing the show's axing, ABC said it was proud of the program, but that it was time to look for a 'fresh approach' to attract younger audiences.

The ABC said they were proud of Tonightly with Tom Ballard's on-air team (pictured), but added it was time to move on and focus on new projects
'We remain committed to exploring and developing projects that connect with different demographics,' the statement read.
Ballard said that getting to host the show was an 'absolute honor and privilege, even though we never got to be on Media Watch'.
'I feel so proud of the 'work' we made and I feel so lucky to have been surrounded by laughter and stupidity for an entire year' he added.
