tnn | Oct 26, 2018, 04:00 ISTSurat: A local court on Thursday sentenced a 45-year-old man to eight years imprisonment after finding him guilty of kidnapping two minor girls and trying to sell one of them for prostitution in Mumbai and attempting to kill another.
Mohammed Nisar Shaikh alias Munno, a resident of Nana Bazaar in Rander, had kidnapped one five-year-old and another six-year-old girl when they were playing outside their homes on May 15, 2013. He lured them by offering ice cream and took them Adajan Patiya. Shaikh then took the girls to the station and boarded a train going towards Vadodara.
However, he got down with at Kosamba and went to a graveyard behind Indira Nagar Awas. Both the girls had slept off as they were tired, but after a while, one of them woke up and started crying. Fearing that he would be caught, Shaikh took her in an open ground and strangled her with a piece of cloth. He left from there thinking that she had died, but the girl was unconscious. She was rescued by some locals and taken to a doctor.
He then went to Mumbai taking another girl and tried to sell her to those involved in prostitution. However, when no one was ready to buy the girl, he boarded a train back to Surat. However, before he commits another crime, police nabbed him and rescued both the girls.
Shaikh was convicted for under various sections of kidnapping, section 307 (attempt to murder) and section 372 (selling minor for prostitution).
"Shaikh got maximum punishment of eight years for attempt to murder," said Bhadresh Dalal, public prosecutor.
