OBC outshines General category in RAS prelims

AJMER: The OBC (Other Backward Class) category scored better than the General category in the Rajasthan Administrative and allied Services (RAS) preliminary examination 2018, whose result was declared late on Tuesday night. Out of 3 lakh 76 thousand and 762 candidates who appeared in the preliminary exam, 3 lakh 61 thousand and 147 candidates could not clear the exam. Only 15 thousand and 615 candidates were declared eligible for appearing in the RAS main examination 2018, likely to be conducted on December 23 and 24 this year.
Rajasthan Public Service Commission (RPSC) remained alert while declaring the result of the RAS preliminary examination 2018 and rechecking of the result went on for a long eight hours and ended till late in the night.
The RAS preliminary exam was conducted on August 5 this year across the state, in which 3 lakh 76 thousand and 762 candidates appeared for 1,017 posts of administrative and allied services in different departments of Rajasthan government.
The cut-off marks of General category was 76.06 percent, while the cut-off marks of OBC category was 99.33 percent, relatively much higher than the General category’s. This shows that competition in the OBC category has increased and this is the first time when such a high cut-off has been reported for the OBC category in the exam.
The performance of ST (Scheduled Tribes) improved and the cut-off marks for this category went up to 73.38 percent.
OBC Women too performed better than the women from the General category, with a higher cut-off marks of 79.64 percent as compared to a 66.67 percent cut-off of the General category women.
Again, women from the ST category performed better than the women from the SC (Scheduled Castes) category, with a cut-off marks of 61.30 percent, as compared to the 55.93 percent cut-off for SC women.
The cut-off for tribal sub plan (TSP) was 71.14 percent, while that for TSP women was 57.27 percent. TSP SC cut-off was 75.17 percent and TSP ST cut-off was 55.93 percent. RPSC said that the marks and key of the examination will be declared soon. Results of some candidates have been withheld because of either a pending writ petition in the high court or because of administrative reasons.
