Magic XI team members with the Zesto Cup
KOCHI: Many of them were participating in a formal sports tournament for the first time. Coming from amateur backgrounds, the players experienced a unique atmosphere at the ground. Still, The excitement and pressure were visible on their faces.
‘Zesto Cup 2018’, a 5-a-side football tournament organised by Zesto Sports Kadavanthra in association Decathlon Sports was special for many reasons.
The tourney held between October 19-20 has ended on a high note with scintillating performances from the cubs. A total of 24 teams participated in the tournament for the coveted championship. Among them, 20 were school teams and remaining four spots filled by club teams. They were assembled into eight groups of three teams each.
Apart from the playing XI, three players were allowed for substitution. Under the watchful eyes of match officials, the young blood battled out on the sprawling turf. The final was held between Magic XI and Green Hills and the former eventually became the champions. Magic XI netted four goals against one.
B Unnikrishnan of Green Hills was chosen as Most Valuable Player for his crackling performance throughout the event. His teammate Ashish James was named the best Goalkeeper. Magic XI striker Sahad S was the top scorer.
The following are the 24 teams that participated in the cup: Talent Public school, Don Bosco 1, Don Bosco 2, Sree Narayana Vidhyapeedam Public School, Nalanda Public School, Al Farookhia Higher Secondary School, KMJ Public School, St.Jude School, ICT School, Kendriya Vidyalaya 1, Kendriya Vidyalaya 2, Ceeyem School, St. Mary’s School, Indian School, Bhavan’s Girinagar, Greenhills, Bhavan’s Vidhya Mandhir,Raiders FC, Kunnel FC, Footies FC, Magic 11, Masters FC, Castle FC and CBF.
Kiran C Nair, Sub-Inspector of Police, Kadavanthara was the chief guest of the event and handed over the trophies. In addition, high-end shoes and gloves sponsored by Decathlon Sports were handed over to the winners.
