- Nearly 80 people-smuggling operations to Australia have also been prevented
- 600 people-smuggling arrests overseas involved Australian authorities
More than 3,300 asylum seekers travelling on 33 boats have been stopped from landing on Australia's shores in the past five years.
The asylum seekers were discovered by Operation Sovereign Borders (OSB), which has stopped about 80 people-smuggling attempts since September 2013.
The 'threat of people-smuggling has certainly not gone away,' Home Affairs Minister Peter Dutton told parliament.

Mr Dutton said the government has been alerted to several people-smuggling attempts from countries in Asia and the Middle East.
More than 600 people-smuggling arrests made overseas in the past five years have involved Australian authorities with about 500 occurring in Sri Lanka.
Additional arrests were made in Indonesia, Malaysia, Pakistan and Thailand.

Mr Dutton informed parliament on Tuesday of mounting government pressure to place a lifetime ban on refugees (pictures are detainees on Manus Island)
Mr Dutton told parliament on Tuesday of mounting government pressure to place a lifetime ban on refugees.
The proposed ban would stop any asylum seekers on Nauru or Manus Island, who arrived after July 2013, from ever being granted a visa to come to Australia.
The ban, referred to as the 'lifetime visa ban', would also stop refugees from entering on a business or tourist visa.

Operation Sovereign Borders have prevented nearly 80 people-smuggling attempts into Australia
The Labor party said it would support the move if the government agreed to resettle asylum seekers from Nauru and Manus in New Zealand.
The Opposition sent a proposal to Immigration Minister David Coleman on Monday night with amendments to the lifetime ban.
The amendments would limit the ban only to those refugees resettled in New Zealand who attempted to move to enter Australia as a permanent resident.
This means resettled refugees could still enter Australia on a tourist or business visa.
But the government wants to ensure refugees in Australia who are resettled in New Zealand aren't given a 'back door' entry to enter back into the country.
Prime Minister Scott Morrison said Labor's deal would undermine the United State's offer to take up to 1250 refugees.
'You don't horse-trade on border protection. You don't do it,' he said.
