BHU professor suspended for alleged sexual misconduct

VARANASI: SK Chaubey, a professor of zoology at Banaras Hindu University, has been suspended till the completion of investigation against him for alleged sexual misconduct. After returning from an education trip from Puri a group of girls had given a written complaint to the vice chancellor accusing the professor of making obscene and vulgar remarks during the trip. The matter is being investigated by the university’s women grievance cell.


The BHU VC Prof Rakesh Bhatnagar summoned Chaubey on Tuesday for his clarification. The university spokesperson Rajesh Singh said that the matter is being investigated as per standard procedure, and the professor would remain suspended from his duty till the completion of investigation. Appropriate action would be taken in this regard on the basis of investigation report.


Recently, a group of zoology department students had gone on an education trip to Puri and Bhubaneswar under the guidance of Chaubey. After returning from the tour, the girl students leveled charges of sexual misconduct against Chaubey. BHU’s sexual harassment committee was asked to look into the matter.
